Sukie was most probably a servant or former slave to Lambert Jenkins of Jenkinstown Road in Gardiner, NY. Family stories tell of Sukie being the family's washerwoman. Boots, clothing and the washing tub Sukie once used is presently owned by Gladys Dubois, wife of the late William Dubois, descendant of Lambert Jenkins, original settler of Jenkinstown.
