Description	This is a photograph of the Alfonzo Rockwell Cluett Foundation, commonly known as Cluett Hall, flagship building of the Pawling School with the Simpson Sundial in the foreground. Construction of Cluett Hall began in 1909 and finished in time for the opening of school in September 1910. It was funded by George Bywater Cluett, a part owner of the Cluett, Peabody and Company, a collar and shirt making firm in Troy, New York. This building was constructed as a memorial to Mr. Cluett's son, Alfonzo Rockwell Cluett, who had been a student of Dr. Frederick Luther Gamage, the founder and first headmaster of the school. As the first building on campus, Cluett Hall housed classrooms, dormitory rooms, offices, the infirmary and a dining room. Henry (Robert) Montgomery attended this private all male boarding school for two years from 1919 through 1921 and attended classes, ate all his meals, and slept in this building. The sundial in the photograph has a plaque on the base that honors Thomas Simpson, one of the original benefactors of the Pawling School. Also, an inscription in the school' 1909 yearbook, The Scroll, reads "To him whose generous cooperation provided the old, and secured the new, Pawling School, this volume is gratefully dedicated - Mr. Thomas B. Simpson."
Notes	Renowned architect New York Grosvenor Atterbury designed Cluett Hall. It measures three hundred feet long by fifty feet wide and is constructed of dark-red brick, set off with stone trimmings in the Elizabethan style. The Pawling School was founded in 1907 and occupied the Dutcher House (hotel) for three years before moving to its permanent location on Route 22 where Cluett Hall was built. More than one hundred years later, Cluett Hall still functions as the flagship building of Trinity-Pawling School. Note: Pawling School was renamed Trinity-Pawling School in 1947.
