Middletown
,
New
York
, the
40-room
mansion
was
designed
by
Franklin
(Frank)
J
.
Linsey
and
built
as a
residence
for
Webb
Horton
and
family
beginning
in the
Fall
of
1901
. The
cornerstone
,
dated
1902
, was
laid
January
12
,
1903
and the
building
was
occupied
in
1906
,
prior
to the
completion
of the
interior
. By
1918
,
all
residents
of the
estate
had
passed
away
, and
Webb's
son
Eugene
left
the
estate
to his
cousin
John
Horton
Morrison
. In the
Fall
of
1918
, the
Morrison
family
took
up
residence
.
When
John
Morrison
passed
away
in
1947
, he
willed
life
use
of the
estate
to his
wife
Christine
.
Upon
her
death
, the
property
was to
go
to the
Horton
Hospital
. In
1949
,
Mrs
.
Morrison
wished
to
donate
the
estate
to
establish
Orange
County
Community
College
and the
hospital
board
agreed
to
relinquish
its
claim
to the
estate
if the
local
community
raised
$75,000
to
pay
off
the
hospital's
debts
. The
property
changed
hands
in
1950
.
