Levi Hasbrouck (1791-1861) Josiah’s only son, inherited Locust
Lawn in 1821. That same year Levi married Hylah Bevier (1795 -
1874). Under Levi’s tenancy, Locust Lawn continued to thrive as a
successful, up-to-date farming operation and the Hasbrouck home
was a comfortable one. Levi and Hylah purchased quality
household furnishings on shopping trips to New York City,
Newburgh and Poughkeepsie. They and other members of their
families were painted by Ammi Phillips (1788-1865), the prolific
portrait artist.
