around
the
entire

which
was
predominantly
used
between
1863-1866.

found
in the
collection

which
several
copies
were
found
. The
original
source
of the
studio
portraits
, were
most
likely
a
daguerreotype
,
which
has not been
located
.
Written
on the
back
of the
photograph
in
pencil
is

' also on the
back
is
a
stamp

owner
of
Bogardus
photographers

refitted
the
old
Root
Gallery
at
363
Broadway
in
1862
, by
1869
his
new
studio
was on
1153
Broadway
, but
still
maintained
the
363
Broadway
address
as
well
.
Levi
Hasbrouck
,
born
in
1791
, was the
only
son
of
Josiah
Hasbrouck
(1755-1821)
and
Sarah
Decker
(1764-1845)
.
After
Josiah's
death
in
1821
,
Levi
inherited
Locust
Lawn
. That
same
year
Levi
married
Hylah
Bevier
(1795
-1874)
.
Levi
and
Hylah
had
six
children
together
,
although
only
five
of them
survived
adulthood
.
Under
Levi's
tenancy
,
Locust
Lawn
continued
to
thrive
as a
successful
,
up-to-date
farming
operation
and the
Hasbrouck
home
was a
comfortable
one
.
Levi
was a
member
of the
Washington
National
Monument
Society
,
American
Tract
Society
and
American
Bible
Society
.
Levi
Hasbrouck
died
on
March
7
,
1861
, of a
long
unknown
illness
.
Upon
Levi's
death
his
only
son
Josiah
inherited
the
family
farm
Locust
Lawn
and
much
of his
father's
real
estate
in
New
Paltz
and
environs
.
