Description	A close up of the Erskine-De Witt map, focusing on Dobbs Ferry. Simeon deWitt, 1756-1834, was Geographer and Surveyor General of the Continental Army. Colonial Robert Erskine, 1735-1780, was an engineer from Scotland whoe came to Ringwood, N.J. to work at the Hassenclever Iron Works. Sympathetic to the colonists' cause, Erskine was appointed Geographer and Surveyor General of the Continental Army in 1776. Today many of Erskine's maps are found in the Map Room of the New York Public Library, 42nd Street branch.
