When one of the children or grandchildren were sick, she would go and nurse them. Mother said she saved her life when she was two years old. She put her in a bath of warm vinegar to allow her to breath again.
When Henrietta got old, they asked what they could do for her and she said she wanted a very large tombstone. She got it. It is the largest tombstone in the Black cemetery at the corner of Rt. 300 and 208 in Wallkill, New York. Many times mother would point up at that stone and say there is where Henrietta is buried.”
-Susanna Lent
In the 1900 census, Henrietta Lynet was listed as being 45 years of age. She was living with Josiah P. and his wife Mary DuBois in Gardiner, New York. The census states that she was born in New York January 1855. She could read and write, was single and her parents were also born in New York.
