              Honorable & Much-beloved Brothers. Consistory of N: Paltz & Schawenkong

			With this I inform Y[our] HON[ors], that I in the Peace 
Of the Lord, have firmly[,] with high esteem and sincere Love, accepted Y[our] 
H[onors'] calling & am now ready, to Come over to Y[our] H[onors], if it pleases
the Lord, - - - Brothers, My Wish & desire is from Y[our] HON[ors], to lend me
a helping hand, & have some of Y[our] H[onors] come over to me,
to assist me with counsel & deed, how I should Arrange for my 
Removal, because my congregation [that I am to leave behind?] appears to be
with Lack of love towards me, by which they are prevented from 
showing me the least bit of helpfulness. - - -
I will postpone my closing service to this congregation until
Someone of Y[our] HON[ors] will have arrived here. - - -
My most heartfelt & deepest Soul-Wish, of Jehova, the All-sufficient
covenant-God of his People, is, that it would please him, to let us come 
together in his Favor, with a full blessing from the Gospel, that the 
Merciful Workings of his Ghost, may blow over all of us as a Lovely
North & South Wind, so that Groom Jesus, coming to us, his Garden,
may find & see, multiple out-flowing spices of hallowed
intentions, & desires, immediate & plentiful good Works, that will be pleasing to
the god that give smell & and edifying to one's Neighbor, & that he may
grant his approval of that, & receive the Honorable fruits thereof 
to his pleasure & amusement - - - Is the sincere Wish of he

namely John Mcmaster[,] hand this Letter to You & should 
the first [letter] to Y[our] HON[ors] have come first, than you must
let it rest with you quietly. - - Be heartily greeted by me 
you all - - - I much desire to see you all[.]

Description	The letter when folded served as its own envelope. Mr. Simon Dubois at N. Paltz is written on the back of the letter in one of the top central units.
Notes	The Rev. Goetschius is informing the consistory of the New Paltz and Shawangunk churches that he will accept their invitation to to serve them as minister. He will await the arrival of someone from the New Paltz consistory to give his last sermon at his present church in Scholhary. Notes concerning Johannes Mauritius Goetschius taken from The Goethschuis Family in America, by William Heidgerd. Johannes Mauritius Goetschius was born in the Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland. He received his medical degree in Europe, and came to America, hoping to practice medicine. He was the brother of the Reverend John Henry Goetschius, whom he studied theology with in Hackensack, NJ. In 1760, the New Paltz Church united with Shawangunk and invited Rev. J.M. Goetschius to serve as minister. He accepted this call from the two churches, which stated that he was to preach twice each Sunday, alternating between New Paltz and Shawangunk, from Easter to October. During the winter months only one sermon a day was required. He was also to administer the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, four times a year, twice at each church and to visit each family every year. For these services he received a house, barn, 90 acres of land and a good spring at Shawangunk, where he made his home. The New Paltz people were to provide his bed, board and quarters when he came to visit them. In his interactions with people, he ministered to both body and soul. He was known as the Doctor-Dominie. He was described as of a commanding appearance and courteous manner, an ordinary preacher, but moderately successful. His ministry continued until his death at the parsonage in Shawangunk , on Sunday afternoon at 4:00, March 17, 1771, at the age of 48. He was buried on the 19th in "het doophuisje" of the church at Shawangunk. The Reverend was a slave holder which is noted in his will, in which he states "I leave to my wife a negro man and woman and girl. . ."
