Terminal Archaic
2000-1000 B.C.
The People
Many aspects of the terminal archaic culture are unknown. However, these people do live predominantly along rivers or lakes and continue the hunting gathering traditions of the cultures before them.
The Climate
The terminal archaic is a time of great fluctuation in temperature and precipitation. On average however, the climate remains warm and dry. There is no evidence that radical changes in the weather affected the lifestyle of the people. Oak, chestnut, hickory and beech trees dominate the forests.
Diet
The people of this time are still hunting and gathering, however, new technologies are introduced which change the hunting and cooking process. Early pottery, especially bowls and steatite cooking kettles, change how women prepare food. Also, a new broader projectile point typology appears which is affective in hunting large game when attached to a spear.
