Description	Map depicts the Village of Ashland main street, on the Batavia Kill. This map is inset on the page with the Town of Prattsville map. Ashland is located in the western part of Greene County, New York, in the Catskill Park, northeastern Catskill Mountains. Map locates houses with last names of owners, though occasionally only initials are used. Sites of hotels, stables, a school, churches and parsonages, stores, the post office, a hat shop, a segar [sic] factory, hop kilns, sheep sheds, a turning shop, and saw and grist mills are included. This map also includes a business directory.
Town Description	The Village of Ashland, located on the Batavia Kill, is the principle village within the Town of Ashland. Population 400. The Village contains two churches and a collegiate institute, The Ashland Collegiate Institute, founded in 1854 under the care of the M. E. denomination.
