The Dutchess Community College Library is a service team dedicated to providing consistently high-quality, cost-effective friendly service to our patrons and support for the intellectual growth of the college community.
We support the instructional objectives of teh college and actively build effective relationships with our faculty, students, and staff, as well as campus and community groups to enhance the learning experiences of our students. We promote our services and facilities through both formal and informal outreach programs. We recognize the value of our library to the community at large, and welcome use of our facilities and services that is in concert with the needs of our college community.
We acquire information in a variety of formats by building, maintaining, and evaluating our collection in a cost-effective and user-relevant way that is explicitly linked to the needs of our diverse college constituencies. We coordinate with other college departments charged with information collection responsibilities, are open convenient hours, and provide a supportive environment that is conducive to various forms of learning and study.
We respond to changing needs and opportunities and seek expanded alliances with organizations within and outside of our geographic region. We adopt innovative technologies and document delivery systems to faciilitate access to a wide variety of resouces.
We adhere to the principles of information equity and equal access, promote computer and information literacy, and encourage a commitment to lifelong learning and self-reliance. We teach research strategies, effective use of library resources, and critical thinking skills, which enable students to function in an information-based society.
We strive for excellence in service by actively encouraging dialog with our patrons and colleagues, continuously evaluating our facilities and programs, and providig relevant training and development opportunities for our staff.
