"Hurrah for Chester!" We are to have waterworks. This was determined by the voice of the people last Friday afternoon, when a special election was held at Bodle Hall to see whether we should have water or no water. Seventy-five votes were cast, of which 68 was for and 7 against. The project has been under way for the past year or so, and has kept gradually going on until the time came for its final decision. Many were under the impression that it would only terminate in talk as it has been for several years past; but today it gives us pleasure to inform all such that their theories was miscalculated and seemed to lack foundation in regard to this important matter; yet we have nothing but congratulations to offer all such and hope they will now join us in wishing our waterworks success. As has been well-known by the citizens of Chester that in order to protect her buildings and property from the angry fire fiend it was necessary to have waterworks, to this question our taxpayers have at last awakened from their deep slumberd to the above realization for Chester's greatest safety snd benefit in the future. The water will be brought to Chester in pipes from Little Long Pond in Monroe, a distance of about five miles. When the work will have been finished we will have a never failing supply of good wholesome water for fire and domestic purposes. Have we not reason to say, "Hurrah, for Chester?" Let the good work go on and not stop until trenches are dug, pipe laid, hydrants put in and the water turned on, and then those who were opposed to the enterprise will readily have the benefits derived therefrom. The people of Chester has cause to be congratulated in securing what will e're long be one of the most valuable benefits which has been its good fortune to secure since its foundation. The works will he one of the best in Orange county, that is so far as pure waer and supply is concerned. We may see land enhanced, additional dwellillgs erected, more of a prospect to get manufacturers to locate here, and other advantages to be derived from our intended waterworks.
