FUNERAL OF MR. LAWRENCE
April 3rd, 1914
The funeral of W. A. Lawrence, ex-president of the village of Chester, was held at his late home at Goshen, Monday afternoon at 1:30, and was very largely attended.
There were a number present from this city and from other parts of the county, among them being: C. C. Bogart, representing the Middletown Shriners' Association; Charles M. Quackenbush, representing Midland Chapter, R. A. M.; Dr. M. C. Ashley, superintendent of the Middletown State Hospital; Charles L. Mead, James B. Carson and W. H. Rogers, members of the governing board of the Middletown State Hospital; Hon. John D. Stivers, William B. Royce, of the board of directors of the Orange County Board and, Horse Improvement Association; H. M. Howell and E. A. Brown, of the board of directors of the Orange County Agricultural Society, and P. J. Donohue and W. H. Nearpass, of Port Jervis.
There were a large number of beautiful floral offerings. The funeral services were under the direction of Standard Lodge, F. and A. M., of Monroe, {correct misaligned type set} and the interment was in the family plot at Warwick.
As a memorial to W. A. Lawrence, all business in Chester stopped today from 1 p. m.- to 3 p. m. The Business Men's Association of Chester attended the funeral in a body, as well as the Chester branch of Hoffman Lodge. The Walton Hose Company of Chester, of which Mr. Lawrence was an active-honorary member, was represented by Foreman H. B. Green. First Assistant Foreman A. H. Littell, Second Assistant Foreman C. A. Thompson, President W. S. Hall, Secretary V. B. Storer and Vice President A. E. Basin.
The forty employes of the Lawrence & Son cheese factory attended in a body.
