REV. EZRA T. SANFORD DEAD
ONE of the most active Baptist ministers in New York City, Rev. Ezra T. Sanford, of the North Baptist Church, West Eleventh Street, died suddenly at his home in Chester, N. Y., on August 23. For several months he had been a sufferer from heart disease. He was forty-seyen years old and had been in charge of the North Baptist Church for seven years. He was one of the leading clergymen of the Baptist denomination.
Dr. Sanford was a graduate of Cornell University, following his course at Colgate, and completed his education for the ministry in the Union Theological Seminary. In 1892 he accepted the call to the Baptist Church in Cornwall, N. Y. He was afterward pastor of the Baptist Churches at Port Jervis, N. Y., and Hackensack, N. J. He came to New York City in 1905.
Dr. Sanford was a man of many Christian activities and was particularly fond of Sunday-school work. For ten years past he visited THE CHRISTIAN HERALD'S Children's Home at Mont-Lawn every summer and was a special favorite with the children, who loved to listen to his illustrated stories of travel in foreign lands. He was a most genial and lovable man, a ready speaker, and an earnest and successful soul-winner. The interment took place in the family burying-ground at Warwick, N. Y.
