Description	Panel 2 of Hyde Park Post Office Mural. From "Murals in the Hyde Park, New York Post Office": "Before 1812. Irate Dr. Samuel Bard tries vainly to persuade Innkeeper Jabez Miller to change the name on his sign board from "Hyde Park" to almost anything else, "Hyde Park" being the name of the Doctor's country place. In 1812 Miller succeeded in having the Post Office called Hyde Park. The row of cherry trees leads over the hill to Jacobus Stouthenburgh's second stone house." In a 1940 manuscript for a pamphlet of notes on the Rhinebeck murals compiled for Olin Dows by Ms. Helen Myers it is noted that Hyde Park's first hotel was built ca 1790 and stood at the intersection of Market Street and the Albany Post Road (presently Rt. 9). At Myers' suggestion, Dows adorned the "Hyde Park Hotel" with an image of Samuel Bard's "Red House" to make "Dr. Bard's temper more understandable."
