Description	Members of the Department pose for a photo. That year, they were led by Walter Kaufman, Chief; Emmett O'Brien, Jr. '53, 1st Assistant Chief; and John E. Jolliffe '52, 2nd Assistant Chief. Originally founded by George Blackstone in 1942, the Department was entirely run by volunteers and aimed to protect the campus and provide fire fighting education for its members. The only organization at Bard to do so, membership required election by the organization. All the officers of the Fire Department belonged to the Mid-Hudson-Harlem Valley Fire Chief's Association, and many members were active members in the Dutchess County Volunteer Firemen's Association. Some of both organizations' meetings were hosted at Bard.
