Before the age of the automobile, many short rail lines ran through Rockland County. The railroad from Nanuet went through Bardonia on its way to New City. This copy of a postcard shows the railroad crossing on a quiet road.
The two story frame schoolhouse in Bardonia had an enclosed belfry and a tall flagpole. Several classrooms were available. Near the flagpole was a boulder with a plaque.
