Po’keepsie Dec 20th
Dear Father.
I received your
letter last night but not
until it was too late to
go out and order the
pictures. I will go tomorrow
morning early, and that
will do as well. It may
be we can get them right
before wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Wright said at the
table to day dinner that
he supposed the girls would
be writing letters home
to day, to let their friends
know what time to meet
them, and as many of
the girls wanted to go
[Page 4]
home.
From your Loving
Daughter Rachel

| Title | 1863-12-20, Letter from Rachel Eltinge to her father Roelif Eltinge |
| Creator | Eltinge, Rachel |
| Date.Original | 1863-12-20 |

| Description | Rachel writes to her father mostly discussing the upcoming school closing and vacation. She explains that the school will close earlier because Mr. Wright did not want the girls traveling alone so late; Rachel says that she will be ready by 2:00 to be picked up (she hopes with a sleigh and new sleigh bells) for her two week vacation. The rest of the letter includes minor recent events and an apology for her rushed letter (it is a busy Monday). |
| Notes | Rachel Eltinge, born April 8, 1847, was one of the six children of Roelif Eltinge (1809-1884) and Blandina LeFevre (1812-1875). Rachel attended the Poughkeepsie Female Academy and went on to marry Solomon DuBois (1839-1924) on November 11, 1875. The couple had four children. Solomon DuBois was known for his fruit farms in Modena and New Paltz, and for raising Holstein-Fresian cattle that he acquired from Holland. These letters are part of the Solomon DuBois and Rachel Eltinge Family Papers (1812-1944). |
