My dear L.M.S.-
It was good to get your letter on the morning of the much dreaded 13th. Had you come yourself what a glowing welcome you would have had! But if you had come unannounced I am afraid that from joy and fear together I should have fainted or died on the spot.
I am unprepared for the proposal to prolong your stay and had a sense of losing interest in life at once. I should lose heart entirely if you were not to come

Your postcard just arrived. I do not know where to find History of the German Gymnasia! It must be very stupid of me. But I can manage to get a few copies. Shall try to get many as ten and send soon as possible.
Miss Start gladdened my heart by saying you were so well. A.U.
Will write to Holt for History of German Gymnasia first. Hope that will bring them!
