(from Zweiten Nolenbuch der Anna Magdalena (1685-1750)
Bach, 1725i BWV So8)
With thee by my side, I -,vould fear not the journey to that
distant land, where sorrows end and all is peace.
Cantata: Dic ihr des unermesslichen Weltalls
Sch5pfer ehrt (K. 61g) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(text by Franz Heinrich Ziegenhagen) 0756-1790
Ye who honor the creator of the immeasurable universe-
call him Jehovah, God, Fu, or Brahma-bear the clarion
words of the Almighty. Loudly his eternal call sounds
through the worlds, the moons, the suns. Hear, 0 man!
Love me in my works. Love order, justice, and concord.
Love yourselves and your brothers. Let strength and beauty
be your ornament, a clear understanding your pride. Extend
the brother-hand of eternal friendship, which only error,
never truth, has so long held back.
Break the bands of this error, tear the veil of this prejudice,
throw off the cloak that has clothed mankind in sectarian-
ism. Re-forge into colters the iron that until now has shed
a brother's blood. Blast rocks with the black powder which
has often sent murdering lead into a brother's heart.
