Minuetto e Finale
(The work by Stravinsky is much more than an arrangement of
Pergolesi's themes. It is one of several successful works of this
type where a composer's idiom and individual style is projected
with great force without robbing the original of its flavor and
tradition. The juxtoposition of the original Sonata by Pergolesi
and Stravinsky's Suite should illustrate this clearly, particularly
so since the last movement of the Sonata is used for the Finale
of the Suite)
Chaconne Johann Sebastian Bach
(from Parlita no. z for violin alone) (1685-17SO)
