half
story
stucco
on
frame
,
wood
shingled
gambrel
roof
with
shed
dormers
.
Open
porch
extension
on
both
sides
.
Central
entrance
,
pedimented
on
both
sides
has
sidelights
.
One
stucco
chimney
.

Built
in
1886
. This,
reputed
to be the
oldest
house
in the
Park
, was
built
for
Pierre
Lorillard
as a
Shooting
and
Hunting
Lodge
. In
1885
,
Lorillard
"had
obtained
control
of
7000
acres
,
most
of
it
on the
north
side
of the
Ramapo
River
(and)
conceived
the
idea
of
establishing
therein
a
hunting
and
fishing
club
, with
game
preserve
and a
house
for
sportsmen
. The
plan
was
being
executed
,
when
a
much
broader
one
took
shape
in his
mind...
" This
first
"
house
for
sportsmen
" was
situated
on the
lake
initially
, then
moved
back
to its
present
position
,
probably
in
1895
when
Augustus
D
.
Julliard
purchased
this
property
(Lot
165B)
and the
property
on
which
he
built
his
main
estate
(Lot
121)
. That
large
stone
mansion
designed
by
Howard
,
Couldwell
and
Morgan
and was
torn
down
in
1960
. This
Lot
165B
is
shown
with
two
frame
structures
on the
1903
map
. This
is
one
of them, the
other
, a
converted
stable
(the
property
was
divided
in
1910)
is
now
owned
by
James
S
.
Graetzer
. There
is
evidence
that this was
used
as a
gardener's
cottage
by
Julliard
: a
potting
shed
remains
on
property
.
