Louis Prang, (1824-1909) was born in Breslau, Prussia. His father, Jonas Louis Prang, was French Huguenot and his mother was of German descent. Prang came to the United States in 1850 and settled in Boston, Massachusetts, after spending many years traveling and learning about printing and textiles. Prang promoted the greeting card movement in America in 1856. By 1875, Prang opened a lithography shop in Boston. Prang has been acknowledged as being ""The Father of the American Christmas Card"". He developed chromolithography and in 1874 created and published the first Christmas cards produced in America.
