Description	Housedress, made of wool and silk, open down front with blue cloth covered button and loop closer. Two panels along opening of blue silk with a vibrant rust and turquoise ombré stripe on either side. Interior is lined with a blue and yellow plaid and sprig motif. Sleeves are 3/4 length trumpet shaped (pagoda) with blue silk trim on the ends. Two pockets at front, flaps are trimmed with a similar blue silk. Lower portion of the skirt is embroidered in a chain stitch floral and scrawling decoration. Back is gathered tightly to slightly high waistline and fitted with a drawstring on interior and exterior. A single blue silk tie with a tassel can also found along either side of waist.
Notes	Ombré refers to a kind of gradation of color - usually seen in a stripe - that was popular for women's dress fabrics in the mid 19th century. A huswif, found in the Locust Lawn collection, was made using a scrap of wool fabric left over from this housedress.
