Due to the difficult nature of Thitchener's writing,
the edited transcription will follow the literal transcription.

Falmouth Va, June the 8 1863
Dear Sister,
I received your kind letter
last night and was glad to hear from
you all. Nothing gives me as much
pleasure as to hear from the things
that is a good and all about
the cows and horse, dogs and cats.
You said that you had one boar hog
and bull bison. Must be good with you.
Well now, I will try to tell you
the news. The army is all on the move
trying to find the rebels. Jo Hooker
has lost track of them. Some of our
army is in Fredericksburg. They had
quite a fight last Friday afternoon.
We had orders to be ready at any
moment. Well, we did not get off that
night. Last night, the orders come
for us to be ready to fall in and
take six days previsions on our backs
