Description	Warp: natural cotton. Binder: natural cotton. Pattern: blue dyed wool. This coverlet is an excellent example of multi-tonal float work, woven by a very competent weaver. The three areas of float work; pattern, warp, and half warp and half pattern give this coverlet more depth than most float work coverlets have. The strong dark diagonals of the pattern crisscross over the entire central composition, adding another visual layer. Weavers consider the dark pattern on light ground to be the "right" side up or front of a float work coverlet. The coverlet is seamed down the center.
Notes	Float work is an 18th/19th century weaver's term for "over-shot" which is the term more commonly used today. This coverlet has Deyo family history from Ulster County, New York. The works in this exhibition are on display from October 16-December 12, 2010 and January 26-March 18, 2011 at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the SUNY New Paltz, 1 Hawk Drive, New Paltz, NY.
