Description	Letter written by Johannes Lefevre to his brother Peter during his Junior year at Union College in Schenectady, NY. He tells his brother that an applicant with "one fourth negro blood in his veins" has applied for admission and "as he shows his negro dark blood very little & is a fine gentleman I am not much opposed to admitting him" but that some Southern students said they will leave the school if he is admitted.

Translation	Union College. Schenectady Friday evening, Jan 21 1859 To: Mr. Peter A. LeFevre Troy University Troy, N.Y . Dear Brother As I have about finished my second week's recitations, I will improve the interval of rest it offers to write to you. I received yours of the 14th, which informed me of your arrival at Troy, a few days ago. I was real glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself while at home. Perhaps it was a presentiment of the good time I was missing that acted on me, at any rate I felt about as blue for the first few days I was here, as I ever did. The students for the most part did not arrive untill Monday night, so I was a littlle lonesome The classes did not get fairly settled untill the middle of the week & as there had been some changes made in the studies for the term, which would make it harder, I was
