Dear Parents
Yours of the 10th inst. is at
hand and I am sorry to hear of my fathers
ill health[,] but hope in the next from you
to hear of his convalescence[.] I am glad
to hear of the wellfare [sic] of the rest of you[.]
I am in pretty good health at present
having got over the attack of dysentery[.]
I am as well satisfied here as
at Washington with the exception that we
cannot get the little extras in the way
of food which can be had on shore[.]
(we are on the water always and cannot
get ashore only very seldom[.]) I have
not received my boots yet although have
written two letters to the orderly and
