Description	Commemorative ledger containing personal records, recollections, and cemetery records of local soldiers who served in the Ward Post 191 during the Civil War.
Notes	Grand Army of the Republic Ward Post No. 191 Personal War Sketches, was presented to Ward Post 191 in 1897 by Mrs. John R. Norbury in memory of her father, Mr. Phineas Stoddard. The "Ward" Post was so named in honor of Captain Pelatiah Ward, Co. E20th, NY State Militia. When the Civil War began, Ward was Pastor at the Methodist Church, Canal Street, Ellenville, NY. He was wounded at the battle of Manassas, VA on August 30th, 1862, and died two days later at the age of 43. This ledger contains the personal records of local soldiers who enlisted under his command. The volume was donated to Ellenville Public Library & Museum by the Deyo Johnson estate in 1976. A microfilm version (Microfilm # 0191) is also available for public viewing. The original volume is available by special permission only. The GAR Personal War Sketches volume was carefully transcribed by Honor Students from Ellenville Central School, local residents, and EPL&M staff in 2011 in honor of the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
