Dear Aunt Julia and the Girls
[Receive your] letter some time ago but as I have
been so busy did not get a chance to write be
fore this. Please excuse my mistakes as I am
just learning to operate this are machine.
I have been transfered [sic] to what they call
Shaft D since I heard from you. We have to
guard alarge brick building which contains
a lot of pretty delicate machinery, which sets
as a pumping station in case anything goes wr-
ong on the pipe line above this point.
Through here is part of a large siphon, it is
15 feet pipe, made of cement and tunneled thr-
ough solid rock at depth of about 700 feet
underground, (hows that for workmanship?.
There is only five of us here, one corporal, one
cook and three privates or guards. It is just
like a little home to us here, we live in a litt
le house where we can do almost anything we
want to when we are off duty but up to Camp
Peak where I was at first it was (hell).
Have you caught that rat yet that was raising
heck in your pantry.
You ask me if our mail is censored, no it
