Description	Erie Railroad tie date nail. Remnant white paint on face of head. The "25" incised in the nail head indicates it was embedded in a tie that was placed into service in 1925. It was extracted by from a discarded American Elm railroad tie at an archaeological dig, about 3,300 feet south of the Erie Railroad mainline right-of-way.
Notes	These date nails allowed the railroad to track the useful working life of various wood species and preservative techniques.
