Brother firemen:
I enclose a copy of chapter 400 of the Laws of 1914 is signed by Martin H. Glynn, Governor of New York.
On August 18, 1914, at the State Convention in Geneva, State firemen's Association adopted this resolution:
"Whereas, the governor of our state, Martin H. Glynn, has by his official approval placed upon the statute books of New York, a law providing for pensions to disabled firemen and the families of firemen killed in the performance of their duty.
" Be it resolved, that the thanks of this convention be extended to Governor Glynn for this manifestation of his friendship for and interest in the welfare of fire-fighters of the Empire State."
On April 30, 1914, writing to the members of the firemen's Association, Sanford W. Smith, President of the Fireman's Association of State New York, said:
"This law, which is one of the most meritorious and humanitarian measures that has ever been passed, was signed by Governor Glenn April 17, 1914, providing for payment to injured volunteer fireman and pensions to the families of deceased volunteer fireman where death occurs, or injuries resulting in death, due to personal harm sustained while performing and discharging fire duty. Every volunteer fire company of this state should unhesitatingly commend Gov. Glynn for signing this bill; and also the Fire Marshal of the State of New York, Mr. Thomas J. Ahearn, for interest manifested in having this bill passed; and to Sen. John F. Healy, who induced this the bill, and whose efforts aided in its passage."
